The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team beat Temple Holy Trinity 73-29 Jan. 6 to move to 2-0 in District 3-3A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
Leading the way was senior power forward Brock Davis, who scored 40 points.
“It was a career night and school record for Brock,” head coach Zakk Reveille said. “We executed the game plan and played good defense.”
Holy Trinity decided to press the Flames. That didn’t bother Faith as the players easily had answers.
“We don’t see many teams as big as we are,” Reveille said. “No one is as big as we are. We can power the ball inside. We were continuing to go with what was working.”
The other part of the offense that made Reveille happy was the way the Flames recognized who had the hot hand and were willingly passed the ball without consideration for personal stats. He noted that during the win 70-29 win against Rock Rock Christian Jan. 3, the outside scoring of guards Gabe Lopez and Diego Chavira led the offensive explosion. Lopez scored six of the Flames’ 10 3-pointers, while Chavira dropped in three.
“We’re not selfish,” he said. “We didn’t take any selfish shots. We don’t care who’s scoring as long as the team is scoring.”
Meanwhile, the Faith defense hasn’t stopped.
“Defensively, this whole group has really bought in the last few games,” the coach said. “Round Rock Christian had been averaging scoring in the 50s and 60s.”
While the store may be lopsided, Reveille said it’s not as easy as it looks.
“Winning is hard, no matter what,” he said. “Holy Trinity w as much better than the score indicates.”
Faith welcomes Central Texas Christian Tuesday, Jan. 10, with the Lady Flames playing at 6 p.m. and the Flames following at 7:30 p.m.
